Akili is a writer, VOGUE Beauty Assistant, and DJ living in Brooklyn, New York. She goes by the DJ name “Soulglow,” inspired by one of her favorite movies, Coming To America. Akili, who was born and raised in Chicago, moved to New York in 2014 to continue her education at NYU in Creative Writing and Journalism after living in Paris for a year. Akili  has DJ’d festivals like the Queens of House Festival in Chicago and venues like Putnam’s Pub, Shop The Break Vintage store, Kinfolk 90, Y7 Yoga Studio and more.

During a Soulglow set you can expect Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul and House sounds (in which she has drawn appreciation for, from her father and House Music DJ Alan King). Akili has been a music and dance lover her whole life and is a firm believer that music and movement can heal all wounds.
